The ‘Chindwin’ Great Room Table
Dimensions: 3.25” thick X 55” wide X 16.5’ long
There is nothing quite like this live edge table in the USA today. It easily seats 20 people. The ‘Chindwin’ is a statement piece. After arriving in the USA, we asked Nakashima’s lead table maker to refinish it in Pennsylvania and had him add new butterflies after which it was sanded and coated. If you are looking to differentiate your hotel foyer, your great room or your board room, this is your table.
When you bring a wooden slab into your home or commercial space you are bringing in a codified piece of time. If your craftsman knew her stuff, the hypnotic growth rings reveal a temporal contour map of the place in which the tree matured. These Kokko (albezia samman) slabs are sourced from 2008 hurricane Nargis knock downs. The shade trees were planted in British times (1890s) all over Burma to provide shade. Nargis bore down on Rangoon over 2 days with sustained winds of 110-130 miles per hour. We crane lifted several of these fallen giants and let them air dry over the last decade before beginning the process of table making. This particular slab is 16.5’ long x 3.3” thick X 55” (average) wide. There is simply no other table like it in the USA
