Reclaimed Old Growth Teak Flooring Options
All of the characteristics that make teak the most desirable hardwood in the world: stability, beauty, durability, patina, texture and workability become more pronounced with age. Techtona’s vintage reclaimed teak captures all of these characteristics through meticulous sourcing from purely old growth Burmese sources. All other teak on the market today is sourced from plantations in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Indonesia and lacks the structural integrity and lasting power of Burmese old growth teak. The structures we salvage teak from were built during the British colonial period in Burma (1840s-1947). Teak used to build these structures from that period were between eighty and one hundred years old when they were harvested and then shaped by Burmese and British artisans and carpenters into building frames, furniture and boats.
These structures have in turn experienced between 60 and 200 years of repeated transition from monsoon to dry season by the time we acquired and refurbished the teak. Such in-situ aging tempers naturally resilient teak into the finest timber in the world. Invest in such reclaimed teak flooring, decking, paneling and siding and bring home a product imbued with a sustainability and cultural narrative unmatched in the world today.
Much of the teak we salvage has original circular saw markings on it. Other teak is salvaged from lumber that framed buildings and is smooth finished. Some of it has nail holes, mortise pockets, knots and other ‘character’ indicative of prior use. Some of our salvage work has yielded teak virtually free of this character. All of the samples shown on our website can be milled into reclaimed teak flooring, decking, siding and paneling. All of it can be customized to fit your exact texture, color and patina needs. Shown below are some of the natural and added textures and colors available. We encourage you to call or email so we can discuss meeting your exact needs.
