ビルマのアイアンウッドはあまり知られてはいませんが、今日の建築で使われる大変優れた木材の一つです。南米のイペ（タベブイア）によく似ていますが、より赤みがあります。アイアンウッドはチークよりも色が濃く、重く、強い木材です。アイアンウッドはジャンカ硬度テストで約2150ポンド、イペの3342ポンドと比較しても、扱いがはるかに容易です。また、チークより経済的で、床材、パネル、室内の露出した梁や柱に最適です。
