“Can Techtona provide environmentally friend tropical hardwood accents to our floor plan?” These were our marching orders given by a client in need of reclaimed wood to soften the very functional floor plan in her new Florida apartment. The budget was modest and Techtona saw this as the perfect chance to show that reclaimed teak and other reclaimed Burmese hardwoods are not only environmentally friendly, but also affordable and vastly enhance the value of any home.
1.We began in the dining room with 2” wide reclaimed teak wall and ceiling paneling. All of this paneling was treated with a water base coating that allowed the natural variation in teak grains to remain visible.
2. Techtona’s custom furniture is used throughout (sofa, armchairs, coffee tables, bathroom countertop) were made from reclaimed Kokko wood (albezia samman)
3. Throughout the apartment we used teak 4” wide solid teak flooring with a darker water base coating.
4. A sealed Kokko wood sink top was installed in the bathroom. Throughout the apartment we made and installed custom solid teak doors -most of which were louvered to allow air circulation and to echo a south east Asian tropics feel.
5. Lastly, the central staircase and railing was made of 2” thick reclaimed Yamanae wood (Gmelina Arborea)-a lesser known hardwood from southeast Asia .
