One of the best-kept secrets in building today is Old Growth Ironwood (Xylia xylocarpa). Ironwood is a darker, heavier, stronger wood than teak. It has a hardness rating of approximately 2150.
Burmese Ironwood is the timber that built the British colonial infrastructure in Burma 1824-1948. This salvaged ironwood is was reclaimed from a 1932 warehouse in South East Asia.
There is only one way to make buying reclaimed, salvaged old growth ironwood more sustainable- buy it engineered. All of the textures, colors and patina shown on this website can be customized milled into engineered flooring. Techtona’s engineered flooring typically comes in ¾” total thicknesses with 4.8mm wear layers of reclaimed ironwood. Paneling and siding is typically sold in 9/16” total thickness with 2.5mm wear layers of reclaimed ironwood.
